Designing for BCA.

UX & UI for desktop, tablet, mobile & APP within Automotive.

During my time with BCA* I worked on a variety of projects that were generally designed for desktop and mobile, with a separate matching experience in their BCA Buyer App. Most notably, I designed one of their vendor products which greatly improved BCA selling experience - Vendor Portal. I was also part of a team of designers that carried out a complete digital transformation during Covid. This saw the business move 90% of in-person trade online and mitigate the losses forecast due to social distancing regulations. Within the scope of this digital transformation and future feature improvements I worked on a variety of projects that you can see below.

*British Car Auctions (BCA) is a leading B2B car auction company in the UK . They conduct physical and online auctions for a variety of vehicles, across multiple locations across UK. In addition to selling vehicles, they also help vendors prepare, repair, document and transport and re-list vehicles for resale.

Vehicle Details Improvements

Improved vehicle data quality and buying options which increased lot views by 70% and high intent events by 10% in comparison to pages that did not have this information. 47% users that viewed the information also interacted with it.

Bid Management

UX & UI Design (Desktop, Mobile & APP) • User Testing

Enabling buyers to track vehicles, place and manage bids ahead of auctions and manage negotiations with the vendor. This increased the number of bids placed as buyers could bid ahead of time instead of only ever focusing on one auction at a time.
Scope included improving operational processes and creating an internal admin view for easier management and efficiency.

Buyer App

BCA Buyer App plays an important role in BCA, often used by busy customers to check new listings and place bids on the go. In fact more than half of lot views, tracked vehicles collection bookings happen within the app.

I worked closely with web product teams to ensure new features were also represented on the app. Oftentimes we took a web experience and looked to make it even simpler within the app. Following improvements to lot details, bid management and payments, we brought app sales up to 50%, meaning many customers preferred using the app even for high value purchases of £1000+. This also increased engagement with BCA live sales, as bidding was made simple even when on the go.
